On October 6, 2023, Carnival Cruise Line shared that Carnival Freedom would receive her signature “Whale tale” funnel during her 16-day dry dock in Cadiz Spain.

The ship suffered a fire inside the funnel on May 26, 2022. Photos and videos of the fire went viral and the damage was significant. The resulting fire stranded passengers on the island of Grand Turk as Carnival Cruise Line scrambled other ships to transport passengers home.

Thankfully, no one was injured during the fire and crews were able to extinguish the flames before the fire could do additional damage to the ship.

On June 16, just over two weeks later, she resumed service with a modified version of the iconic Carnival funnel. Now, nearly a year and a half later, Carnival Freedom will soon be once again instantly recognizable as a fun ship.

In addition to the funnel, Carnival Freedom will receive the cruise line’s updated blue hull and livery, a Heroes Tribute Bar, new decking, and a series of other enhancements.
